About the Treaty of Nystad

The peace that closed the Great Northern War after 21 years. Sweden ceded Estonia, Livonia, Ingria and part of Karelia to Russia, which returned occupied Finland. Russia became the leading Baltic power, and later that year the senate proclaimed Peter the Great emperor. Swedish great power status, built in the 1600s, ended with the signature.
