About the Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji

Ended the war of 1768 to 1774, Russia gained Azov, Kerch, Black Sea fleet rights, Kabardia, and the protectorship over Ottoman Orthodox Christians, the fateful clause later stretched to intervene. Crimea independence declared, annexed by Russia 1783. The treaty began the Eastern Question, Ottoman decline and European management, running to 1923. Catherine the Great made Russia a Black Sea power permanently.
