About the Treaty of Nerchinsk

First Chinese treaty with a European power, fixed the border along the Argun river and the Stanovoy range, Russia abandoned Albazin fort. Latin was the treaty language, Jesuit interpreters, boundary steles inscribed in several languages. China negotiated from strength then, a position reversed within 170 years by Aigun and Peking treaties. Nerchinsk stands as the proof of earlier Chinese equality in the treaty system later termed unequal.
