Treaty of Zaragoza
About the Treaty of Zaragoza
The companion to Tordesillas fixed the anti-meridian on the far side of the world, 297.5 leagues east of the Moluccas. Spain gave up claims to the spice islands, Portugal paid 350,000 gold ducats, and the line finally settled which half of the globe held the Moluccas. Both crowns kept the details secret for decades.
