About the Boxer Protocol
After the Boxer Rebellion siege of foreign legations, China paid 450 million taels of silver over 39 years, foreign troops stationed in Beijing legation quarter, the Dagu forts razed, and officials punished. The protocol completed the humiliation of the Qing dynasty, which collapsed in 1911. The indemnity, over 18,000 tons of silver, was later partly remitted by the US as scholarships, the Tsinghua University origin.
