Treaty of Paris 1898
About the Treaty of Paris 1898
Ended the Spanish-American War after six months. Spain gave up Cuba, which moved to United States occupation and nominal independence in 1902, and ceded Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines, the last sold for 20 million dollars. The United States became a Pacific and Caribbean power overnight, and the Senate ratification vote passed by one vote.
