Treaty of Sevres
About the Treaty of Sevres
Carved the Ottoman Empire, Greece got Smyrna region, Armenia and Kurdistan promised states, straits internationalized, Arab lands already mandated away. Turkish nationalists under Mustafa Kemal rejected it, won the independence war, and forced its replacement by Lausanne 1923. Sevres remains the cautionary reference in Turkish politics, the Sevres syndrome, fear of foreign partition, invoked against perceived enemies today.
