About the Treaty of Turkmenchay

Following Gulistan 1813, completed Russia absorption of the Caucasus, Persia ceded Erivan, Nakhchivan, paid indemnities, granted capitulations and Caspian naval monopoly. The border drawn then is roughly the Aras River Iran Armenia Azerbaijan line today. Turkmenchay remains the trauma of Persian losses, evoked in Iranian nationalism against Russia. The 2020s Karabakh wars and Iranian Azerbaijani debates echo its lines.
