About the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

Ended the Mexican American War. Mexico ceded California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming, over half its territory, for 15 million dollars. The Rio Grande became the Texas border. Mexicans in ceded lands could become US citizens, though their rights were often violated in practice. The treaty fulfilled Manifest Destiny and ignited the slavery extension crisis leading to the Civil War.
