About the Treaty of Ancon

Ended the War of the Pacific over nitrate fields. Peru ceded the tarapaca province outright, and Tacna and Arica passed to Chile for ten years pending a plebiscite that was never held, the provinces were split by arbitration in 1929. Bolivia, which had joined the war, lost its coast to Chile separately and remains landlocked, a grievance it raises to this day.
