About the Tashkent Declaration
Kosygin mediated after the 1965 war, Shastri and Ayub agreed to withdraw to the 1949 line, restore diplomacy, solve disputes peacefully. Shastri died in Tashkent hours after signing, the declaration overshadowed, both armies withdrew gains, Kashmir unresolved. The inconclusive war fed the 1971 round. Tashkent set the template, third party hosting, status quo ante, that Simla later replaced with bilateralism.
