About the Simla Agreement

After Bangladesh war, Indira Gandhi and Bhutto at Simla, converted the December 1971 ceasefire line in Kashmir into the Line of Control, to be respected without prejudice to final settlement, bilateralism the principle, no third party. India returned 90,000 prisoners, traded territory for the Line acceptance. The LOC remains the working border, Kargil 1999 fought along it. India invokes Simla against internationalization, Pakistan seeks UN routes.
